KNS Financial: Get Your Money Right Book Review

Back in October, I had the pleasure of meeting Sherrian Crumbley from KNSFinancial.com at the Financial Bloggers Conference. She is a personal finance blogger with a simple and clear approach to money. Sherrian educates readers about money using biblical-based financial principles.

And I thought it would be a great idea to get Sherrian’s opinion on “Get Your Money Right.” When I showed her the book, I was happy to hear that she wanted to read it and write a book review.

Here’s an excerpt from Sherrian Crumbley’s insightful “Get Your Money Right” book review (Click here to read the entire review – it’s worth the read!):

Get Your Money Right is not another system.  It is a practical look at what we all face on a day-to-day basis in regards to money, the mistakes we make, and how, by well-informed decisions and actions, we can take every aspect of our financial life and make it work toward our goals.

This book paves that path by taking the reader by the hand, giving them the courage to move out of their current situation, and providing them with the primary tools they’ll need to make sure they never go back to a debt-ridden life again.

As far as motivation, Kembala gives: examples from her own life, words of wisdom, case studies, inspiring quotes, and success stories.  These are seamlessly weaved throughout each chapter to help cement the reader’s resolution to change. (more…)

Don’t Get Taken by Craigslist Robberies and Scams

Craigslist is known as a great site to sell stuff. And you can pick up some bargains too. But if you’re not careful you could find yourself—scammed, robbed and beat up.

Personally I’ve never bought or sold anything on Craigslist. A friend of mine told me about her first time buying something on Craigslist. She needed a double stroller for her vacation. And she found someone selling a “practically new” double stroller for only $65.

Since it was her first time buying anything on Craigslist, she went in person to see the stroller. The seller gave her their home address. When she arrived at the seller’s home, she thought it was a great buy and bought it. So she got a $150 stroller for just $65.

This story had a happy ending, but unfortunately not all Craigslist stories end this way.

Beware of Craigslist “Robbery by Appointment”

In fact, scenarios like this one where the buyer and seller meet robberies are up. They are called “robbery by appointment.”

Some sellers and buyers are being robbed for the item or cash at gunpoint. In other words, say you’re trying to sell your laptop. And the buyer agrees to purchase your laptop and suggests a place to complete the transaction. When you arrive with the laptop in hand, you’re beaten up for your laptop. So you don’t get any cash (only bumps and bruises – Ouch!) and you’re laptop’s stolen.

To avoid these types of issues, arrange to meet the buyer/seller in a busy public place. With these types of crimes on the rise, special police units are advising you to complete your transaction online and mail it. If you have to meet in person, then choose a safe place like your local police station.

How to Sell Your Stuff for What It’s Worth

Spring is here. It’s that time of year when flowers bloom, trees come back to life and going outside is fun again (no more cabin fever!). Suddenly, the urge to do some spring cleaning starts to set in. Before you know it, you’re ready to sell your stuff and put extra money in your pocket.

This is where garage sales come in. I’ve noticed quite a few of them lately. Garage sales give you the perfect opportunity to get rid of stuff you don’t need, use or want and create more space in your home. Best of all, you have a chance to make money. Right?

The one question I ask myself, is one person’s junk really another person’s treasure?

Sure, those common items (e.g. used clothes) are easier to price, but what about those special items? You know like your son’s old video game, it could be worth thousands of dollars. Those tennis rackets you bought twenty plus years ago are collector’s items now, selling for one hundred dollars each.

Its true something you may be selling for pennies on the dollar — could actually be worth a lot more. A few ways to find out how much it’s worth are to: (more…)
