Sometimes airfare prices can be sky high. No matter how early you try and book. Those who play the waiting game hoping prices go down may be disappointed when they go up. On my last trip, I compared an airfare of nearly $400 on my usual airline to one on Spirit Airlines for under $200. This time, I opted to go with Spirit Airlines for half the price.

This was big because I only flew Spirit once before, probably seven or eight years ago. And I remember having to pay for a drink on the airplane, unlike other airlines. I didn’t like the idea of feeling like I was being nickel-and-dimed.

I must admit things have changed since the last time I flew Spirit Airlines. Sure, I could have bought a rock-bottom ticket for $120 (the lowest Spirit fare available). But now they offer tiered pricing, which includes things like a drink and carry-ons for a better traveling experience.

Spirit Airlines describes their tiered-pricing as follows:

  • Go – Purchase bags, seats and other options separately
  • Go Savvy – Standard seat selection and a carry-on or checked bag
  • Go Comfy – Middle seat blocked, Group 2 boarding, bags, a drink and snack
  • Go Big – Big Front Seat®, Group 1 boarding, bags, drinks, snacks and Wi-Fi

I went with the Go Comfy. And I was pleasantly surprised with my good traveling experience. The flight was on time and the plane was clean. We had good service onboard (drinks and snacks included) and the pilot’s communication was great. The only thing I will say is that the seats aren’t as plush as other airlines.

However, they got me there on time. At my friend’s birthday party, Spirit Airlines became a topic of discussion. A few families traveled from the NJ area on Spirit also. It was funny because we were all smiles about our great traveling experience. Everyone had something positive to say, and we were all on different flights.

We all took a chance. Some for the very first time. I’m glad I didn’t let my previous experience stop me from flying Spirit. The airline has improved.

Even the woman sitting next to me across from our “no middle seat” was pleasantly surprised with our flight. She had booked her trip on Delta, but rebooked on Spirit after Hurricane Milton disrupted her travel plans. Sometimes you need to get there, and Spirit was her best option to make a special event on time.

So, the next time you’re booking air travel — Spirit Airlines may be worth a look to compare.

Happy & Safe Travels to You,
