Life’s filled with twists and turns. Isn’t it? That’s why “The Game of Life” was one of my childhood favorites. No matter where you were in the game, the objective was to keep moving forward.
This past weekend we took the girls to the park. As you can imagine with decent weather, there were plenty of people and a lot of activities going on. Looking around I saw people having celebrations, young scouts having meetings and kids playing everywhere.
People young and old were enjoying a day at the park. It may have seemed like an ordinary day, but something EXTRAordinary stood out to me. Let me explain.
When I was sitting on the bench watching my husband play catch with our daughters, I couldn’t help to notice a woman. She must have been in her seventies or eighties. She was walking around the path with a cane. Sure there were a lot of other people exercising and zooming down the same path.
But the manner and determination in which she walked was simply remarkable. You see this woman could not stand straight up. She walked hunched over with a cane in one hand and gently held her side with the other hand. One of her feet was curved in and it was a bit of a struggle to take each and every step.
Despite this, she took her time and never gave up. She may have moved very slowly, but she reached her goal to walk around the park step-by-step. It was absolutely amazing to watch her. As she made her way closer to me – she tilted her head over, looked directly at me and gave me a big smile. I was so happy for her and I returned an even bigger smile back (Think Chester from the Cheetos bag 😀 ).
At this point you may be wondering, what on earth does this have to do with anything?
It has everything to do with everything because when you set your goals and stay focused on doing what you can do you’ll get there. It doesn’t matter where you are or what obstacles/challenges you face on your journey. You just need to be persistent and stay focused on taking the steps necessary to make it happen.
Be encouraged and never give up. Keep moving forward with sheer determination and like the woman at the park you’ll get there.
If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward. – Martin Luther King Jr.
